Research Interests

Projects

Web Service Description Framework (WSDF)

WSDF aims at allowing a client to invoke a side effect free web service without having seen the WSDL description before. This is accomplished by a shared ontology and rules describing the service, which are obtained along with the WSDL description.

SmartGuide

The goal of the SmartGuide project is to leverage both domain knowledge and contextual information to guide users to useful documents. A special focus is put on a peer to peer scenario in which users not only refer to a central document repository, but are also able access their colleagues' documents via an information retrieval agent.

In order to ensure the scalability of the approach, Semantic Web technology and standardized markup languages like RDF(S), DAML, and RuleML are used. This ensures that content metadata as well as ontologies and rules representing the domain can be reused and augmented with other components obtained from the WWW.

OntoLang

OntoLang is a natural language interface for RDF. Based on a RDF Schema Ontology, simple sentences like "joe really likes java" can be translated into RDF triples such as (http://people/joe, http://schema/like, http://java.sun.com).

OntoJava

There is a need for rules and semantics in today’s intelligent systems. The use of Ontologies is promising and the Semantic Web community has proposed several mark-up languages. But there is a need for tools supporting these languages that are easy to use and easy to integrate into current applications. OntoJava is a cross compiler that automatically maps Resource Description Framework (RDF) facts, an ontology expressed in RDF Schema (RDFS), as well as rules and constraints represented in RuleML into a main memory database and rule engine written in Java.

OntoSQL

OntoSQL complements the OntoJava toolkit. It translates RDF Schema and RuleML to SQL table and view deinitions, allowing to use a relational database as a Semantic Web inference engine.

OntoAgent

OntoAgent extends our OntoSQL platform by providing an implementation for Event Condition Action (ECA) rules and a HTTP-based messaging interface, resulting in a small agent platform that bases on Semantic Web standards.

RDF Crawler

A java-based tool which downloads RDF for the web and builds a knowledge base. Extends conventional crawlers such as rdf crawl by a relational database backend, allowing for easy analysis of the data found. Also leverages the Google search engine to locate more RDF data.

Tools

Prolog2RuleML

This small tool allows you to convert rules written in Prolog syntax to RuleML.

DAML2RuleML

Converts DAML to description logic expressions and finally to rules. Validates the semantic equality between the different forms of knowledge representation.
