Seminar: Business Services WS 07/08OrganizerProf. Dr. Christof Weinhardt (IISM)Stefan Luckner, Ryan Riordan (IISM) Prof. Dr. Stefan Tai (AIFB) Prof. Dr. Rudi Studer (AIFB) Dr. Steffen Lamparter (AIFB) Dr. Gerhard Satzger (Service Research Leader, IBM Deutschland) Andreas Neus (IBM Global Business Services) ContentWhile services make up between 60% and 90% of the GDP of modern economies, so far little academic attention has been directed towards understanding how to create / innovate (IT-based) services and how to systematically engineer and manage them applying scientific approaches. The new worldwide SSME (“Service Science, Management and Engineering”) initiative led by IBM is focussing on driving research and education in this area. This seminar integrates economic aspects such as service innovation and service-based business models with rather technical aspects like service management and delivery. The goal of the interdisciplinary seminar is to provide students with a basic understanding of important concepts, methods and technologies for an increasingly services-led economy. The seminar will be jointly organized with IBM and students will get immediate and personalized feedback from practitioners. Given sufficient interest and quality of work, IBM will also provide opportunities for internships later on to help to expand the students’ knowledge in this area. Organizaton of Seminar
General RemarksThe seminar requires about 4h of work per week. For each topic a list of relevant publications is given. However, students are expected to find further relevant publications using resources such as DBLP, CiteSeer, ACM Portal or Google Scholar.Papers
